Traps are useful tools for monitoring invasive species or for fighting them while reducing the use of insecticides.
But many traps which look very impressive are not really effective. If you want be sure about your trap you would do well to test it in lab or in real conditions in order to be sure your customer will be happy with your product.
Attractant efficacy tests
Under the Biocides Regulation (BPR), attractants have to be registered to be sold, which has not been necessary till now; these substances were only tested for commercial or for development purposes. The BPR, therefore, has aroused much greater interest in testing attractants and many new protocols are appearing in order to adapt tests to the huge variability of conditions of use and species of insects. Like repellents, attractants can be tested in lab using olfactometers or in a simulated or real field.
